They will be benchmarked here

_check_methods is called then ABC subclasses are created, not objects. Why do you think that it requires any speedup?

Is it not used by __subclasshook__ of the various classes?

It is, but only in checks like issubclass(A, Iterable), and the result is cached after first attempt.
