Copilot Pro subscription and Opus models

Describe the bug

During today (2026-04-21), I lost the ability to use any Opus model in both GitHub Copilot CLI and VS2026. Is this a bug?

If it is not, then I object to this. I do not mind the request multiplier, but to stop me using it altogether when I have had access to it for a while now on my yearly paid subscription, is just fraud.

Please re-access this decision.

Steps to reproduce the behavior

Use the /model. They are now moved under "UPGRADE".

Expected behavior

To be able to select any Opus model, even with the multiplier. That is how it worked until today.

According to their page, opus is no longer offered with pro.

It is a very questionable behavior.

Probably time to take my money and go somewhere else? I really do not understand this decision. The current multiplier is a perfect solution. At least I can then see the real power behind these models, and that might convince me to increase my subscription level...

I am no lawyer, but when I paid my yearly subscription (which seems to have also gone away), Opus was part of the model selection. This was now taken away. Maybe this will now force me to give my money to Claude directly.

The terms probably reserved the right to change the models, just like we were also getting new models that didn't exist yet when we signed up. But still, this is not ok. Many people were caught by this in the middle of working on projects where they used Opus.

Anthropic's pricing for 4.7 is the same as for 4.6. But to be fair, this 300 premium request model could never work with a token based API they have to use, even with a multiplier. As more people use the expensive premium models, it just doesn't cover the real costs. But that was a sales/marketing decision someone at Github made. They can change that but should honor existing paying customers and their subscriptions.

I just cancelled my year-subscription. Today I kept getting errors in Copilot anyhow with every second prompt. Won't miss it.
